PVC Stabilizer Errors and Solution Methods

Stabilizer selection and dosage are critical in PVC production. Use of wrong stabilizer; It may cause problems such as color change, burning, plaque formation, odor and mechanical performance decrease.

1. Common Stabilization Problems

1) Yellowing / Discoloration

Causes:

  • Low stabilizer dosage

  • Wrong Ca-Zn rate

  • Long stay at high temperature

  • Unsuitable lubricant

Solution:

  • Optimize Ca-Zn or organic stabilizer dosage

  • Reduce process temperatures

  • Revise the lubricant system et

2) Plaque Formation (Plate-out)

Causes:

  • Low heat stability

  • Volatile component excess

  • Lubricant incompatibility

Solution:

  • Ca-Zn mixtures with higher stability

  • Modified lubricant systems

  • Low volatility plasticizers

3) Odor and Gas Output

Reasons:

  • Incompatible plasticizer

  • Insufficient stabilization

  • Low pure raw materials

Solution:

  • More stable systems such as DOTP / TOTM

  • Stabilizers with low VOC level

  • Purer PVC resin

4. Loss of Mechanical Performance

  • Excessive stabilizer → brittleness

  • Incomplete stabilizer → softening, weakening

Result

In PVC stabilization Problems can be easily resolved with correct stabilizer selection and process controls.
